Crops emerging well in southern Iowa

Planting wrapped up over the Memorial Day weekend for a southwest Iowa farmer.

Duane Aistrope says he’s pleased with his corn emergence. “The stuff we planted early looks really good. It’s starting to get its nitrogen and it’s getting a little better green color to it.”

He tells Brownfield he will be scouting for crop diseases throughout the growing season. “Fungicides will be coming up here before I’m ready for it,” Aistrope said. “Looking at spraying the corn and beans, especially on the bottoms. I about have to use a fungicide down there.”

Aistrope says he will soon conduct tissue sampling on his corn.
