Iowa corn planting at 94%, soybeans 85%

Corn planting is winding down in Iowa.

The latest USDA crop report says at 94 percent, the pace is in line with the five-year average.

Emergence is slightly behind normal at 73 percent, and the first condition rating of the season puts 86 percent of the crop in the good to excellent category.

Soybean planting is 85 percent done, 11 days behind last year but almost a week ahead of average.

Emergence is one day off the usual pace at 45 percent.

The first cutting of alfalfa hay is 15 percent complete with hay condition rated 75 percent good to excellent.
