JBS settles with OSHA over COVID protections

JBS has agreed to develop and implement an infectious disease preparedness plan to better protect employees.

The Brazilian-owned food processing company made the announcement as part of a settlement with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration after inspections at two facilities revealed failures protecting workers from coronavirus hazards.

Between April and August of 2020, a plant in Greeley, Colorado saw outbreaks result in the deaths of five employees and more than 50 hospitalizations while another in Green Bay, Wisconsin reported more than 350 cases and two deaths associated to COVID-19.

Under the settlement, JBS subsidiaries and affiliates will use an updated Safe Work Playbook to reduce exposure to coronavirus and work with third-party experts to assess operating procedures and develop the infectious disease preparedness plan.
