Planting season winding down in central Iowa
Central Iowa farmer Morey Hill says weather has been the biggest challenge facing farmers in his area this spring.
“It seems like every time it got just dry enough that we could go, then it would cool down, bring moisture back up and we’d have to wait again,” he said. “We just weren’t getting any heat units to dry that top out.”
But, he tells Brownfield despite the slow start corn is starting to emerge. “From what I can tell, it looks pretty even and a pretty good stand,” Hill said. “I think everybody is pretty happy for the conditions of what it looks like so far.”
Hill says he finished planting corn on May 17th and is currently over halfway done with soybeans.
