Missouri planting nearly caught up

Missouri’s overall planting progress has nearly caught up to last year and the average.

USDA says 84 percent of the state’s corn crop is planted, within five percent of last year and the average. Corn emergence is still well behind at 57 percent.

Thirty-eight percent of Missouri’s soybean crop is planted, also within five percent of last year and the average.

Missouri cotton planting is slightly ahead of last year at 85 percent planted.

Rice planting is at 80 percent complete, 14 percent behind last year and fiver percent behind the average.

Missouri’s winter wheat crop is 88 percent headed, about steady with last year. Its condition rating improved slightly with 97 percent of the crop fair or better. The crop remains well above the national average.

Pasture conditions in the state mostly held steady last week and are nearly all fair or better; 58 percent rated good, and 11 percent rated excellent. Ground conditions were slightly wetter last week; topsoil moisture is 80 percent adequate and 18 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture is 85 percent adequate and 12 percent surplus.
