64% of Indiana corn, 50% of soybeans planted

The USDA says a midweek window allowed Hoosier farmers to make significant planting progress last week.  

Sixty-four percent of the state’s corn crop is planted, compared to 79 percent last year. Thirty-two percent of the crop has emerged.

Fifty percent of soybeans are planted, compared to the one-year average of 66 percent. Twenty percent of the crop has emerged.

Eighty-eight percent of the winter wheat crop is jointing, and 40 percent is headed. Sixty-five percent of the crop is rated good to excellent.

 The first cutting of alfalfa hay is 6 percent complete, and the first cutting of other hay is 9 percent complete.
