South Dakota farmer taking advantage of dry conditions

A farmer in southeastern South Dakota says farmers in his area are trying to finish corn planting.

Travis Mockler of Centerville tells Brownfield, “It’s been drug out a little bit because of the storms, but it’s been going pretty good,” he said. “Everybody is starting to hit beans pretty hard. The planting conditions are right. It’s dry.”

He says his corn planting has been very spread out compared to recent years. “Some people got started right away even though it was dry and cold,” Mockler said. “Others were waiting for some moisture and for it to warm up. Corn planting around here has been going for about five or six weeks.”

Mockler says they have been much dryer than other parts of the state.
