Strengthening Agriculture and Food Supply Chain Act advances to House floor
A bill advancing in the U.S. House would create a taskforce designed to shore up the food supply chain.
Co-author Angie Craig tells Brownfield the Strengthening the Agriculture and Food Supply Chain Act is in response to high prices.
“It’s a bipartisan bill that would create a dedicated taskforce designed to really study this issue (of) the American food supply chain, and hopefully can increase some government coordination and design a plan to prevent this from happening again.”
The Minnesota Democrat joined South Dakota Republican Dusty Johnson in introducing the legislation that stipulates the task force must submit a comprehensive report no later than nine months after enactment of the bill.
“I’ve learned in my first three and-a-half years in Congress that without a deadline you don’t typically get what you’re looking for.”
The Strengthening the Agriculture and Food Supply Chain Act quickly passed out of the House Ag Committee and Craig says she’s hopeful it will be heard on the House Floor soon.
