Iowa farmer working through input concerns

A western Iowa farmer says input challenges are stacking up.

Former NCGA president Kevin Ross of Minden tells Brownfield record-high diesel prices aren’t making things easy for his operation. “I filled up the fuel barrel the other day and that’s a hefty ticket anymore,” he said. “Anytime you’re running these big machines in the field you are adding pretty big costs with that.”

And, he says most farmers are in the same boat on fertilizer costs. “Folks are having to switch up some programs that they didn’t necessarily want to, but because of availability of different chemicals there have been some challenges there,” Ross said.

Ross says high commodity prices have helped ease the pain of expenses.
