Parts concerns ramp up along with planting progress

Spare parts for chassis of construction machinery

There’s a heightened awareness around parts shortages as spring fieldwork picks up.

Southeast Minnesota farmer Rob Tate tells Brownfield breakdowns are common this time of year.

“I was just down at the dealership getting a few things taken care of and a few minor parts, but I try to keep a few spare parts on hand that I know that I may need throughout the season, especially on the planter. And this year with the weather delaying things, I definitely want to be ready.”

He says he tries to anticipate which parts might break based on normal wear and tear.

“Because you may go wanting to get that part and they might not have it in stock, they might not have it at the warehouse, (or) you might be waiting for a few days to get some of that stuff. So it’s very much a concern.”

Tate grows corn and soybeans near Cannon Falls and serves as a director on the Minnesota Corn Board.
