More rain in the May forecast

A climate expert says Iowa farmers can expect more chances of rain showers as planting season continues.

State Climatologist Dr. Justin Glisan tells Brownfield, “The expectation is still a cooler-than-average May, but also higher chances of wetter-than-average conditions.”

But, he says the June-to-August timeframe is showing elevated chances of warmer than average temperatures coupled with dryness. “This partially comes from the realization that we’re in a La Nina signal,” Glisan said. “It looks like it should stretch into summertime. It’s a 59 percent probability.”

Glisan says the recent summer-like heat wave will continue through the start of the weekend.
