Arkansas update: 82% corn and 57% rice planted
More ideal weather conditions are helping Arkansas farmers play catch up. Eighty-two percent of the corn crop has been planted, 9 points behind both last year and 6 points behind the 5-year average. Seventy-five percent is rated good to excellent. Fifty-nine percent of the crop has emerged. Rice planting is 57% complete, still well behind last year and the 5-year average. Thirty-two percent of the crop has emerged. Soybeans are 38% planted with 20% of the crop emerged. Cotton is 32% planted, running ahead of last year. Peanuts are 29% planted and 9% emerged.
The Winter wheat crop is 78% headed, 7% coloring, with 74% of the crop rated good to excellent.
Hay alfalfa is rated 97% fair to good, other hay is rated 39% good to excellent. Vegetables are rated 803 good to excellent.
Topsoil moisture was 97% adequate to surplus and subsoil moisture was 93% adequate to surplus.
