U.S. ag exports support 1 million jobs
Agricultural exports helped support over one million jobs throughout the economy in 2020.
USDA’s Economic Research Service says it measures the employment and output effects of trade in farm and food products on an annual basis.
Findings from 2020 include more than 1.13 million jobs on and off the farm tied to ag exports, with the value of those exports estimated at over $150 billion.
Farm activities generated by ag exports supported nearly 440,000 jobs, mostly in crop and livestock production.
Off the farm, exports supported 424,000 jobs in the services, trade, and transportation industries.
Food processing activities created another 162,000 jobs, with other manufacturing activities like canning and packing giving rise to 107,000 jobs in 2020.
