Kelly says permanent E15 sales can curb inflation and could increase demand

Kansas Governor Laura Kelly says the ethanol industry can support increased demand for permanent, year-round sales of E15.

She tells Brownfield there’s adequate infrastructure to deliver the fuel to retailers. “There is now. Now, if demand is goes sky high, we may have to beef that up. But at the moment, I think we have the infrastructure to get that distributed.”

She says E15 sales can help curb inflation at the pumps. “I think just inflation alone will increase demand for E15. I think it saves something like 8 to 12 cents per gallon and that’s a lot when you’re filling up these larger cars.”

Kelly joined seven other Midwestern governors who told the EPA they’ll exercise their right to make E15 fuel available and says bipartisan support could limit opposition. “That could give it more standing and a lot more support in Congress and in the courts.”

Kelly, along with Kim Reynolds of Iowa, Pete Ricketts of Nebraska, JB Pritzker of Illinois, Laura Kelly of Kansas, Tim Walz of Minnesota, Doug Burgum of North Dakota, Kristi Noem of South Dakota and Tony Evers of Wisconsin, sent EPA Administrator Michael Regan a letter last week saying the Clean Air Act allows them to make E15 available year-round.
