Arkansas planting update: 62% corn, 40% rice planted

Planting pace in Arkansas is picking up steam. Sixty-two percent of the corn crop has been planted, still running behind both last year and the 5-year average. Sixty-two percent is rated good to excellent.  Thirty-two percent of the crop has emerged.  Rice planting is 40% complete, 20% behind last year, and 19% behind the 5-year average.  Thirteen percent of the crop has emerged.  Soybeans are 23% planted, behind last year and the 5-year averages.  Ten percent of the crop has emerged.  Cotton is 13% planted, running ahead of last year.  Peanuts are 12% planted. 

Fifty-one percent of the winter wheat crop has headed with 76% of the crop rated good to excellent.

Hay alfalfa is rated 96% fair to good, other hay is rated 34% good to excellent.  Vegetables are rated 80% good to excellent.

Topsoil moisture was 99% adequate to surplus and subsoil moisture was 97% adequate to surplus.
