Planting still on pause in southern Indiana
Southern Indiana farmer Ben Kron says planters are still parked because of wet and cool conditions.
“We’re finally getting some days around low- to mid-70s, but nighttime temperatures are still cool and a couple of nights ago we had a frost warning,” he says.
Kron tells Brownfield things are looking up.
“It looks like in the 10-15 day forecast nighttime lows are going to start moving up. That will help our soil temperature increase some,” he says. “Someday we’ll be able to get out in the field, but it seems like every couple of days we have a half inch rain keeping us out of the field.”
He says there’s the potential for rainfall this weekend, but if it misses the farm “the gates would just open, and we’d be running wild like no other. Basically, everything depends on what happens this weekend. And if it’s just a small rain, there might be a chance this next week of finally getting out and getting something done.”
