Blunt calling for more river infrastructure investments

U.S. Senator Roy Blunt says more infrastructure investments are needed in the Midwest to keep its ag products competitive globally.

Senator Roy Blunt of Missouri is calling for more investments in shipping infrastructure in the Mississippi River basin to make the transportation system as efficient as possible.

“That just allows us to be that much more competitive,” he said. “One of the things I said here today was, if you’re ever going to put anything on water in the economy, you need to get it on water as soon as you possibly can.”

Blunt was one of 19 Republican Senators to vote in favor of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

He tells Brownfield the $750 million investment in lock and dam 25 in Winfield, Missouri earlier this year is a good start, but more is needed to bring infrastructure…

“…to our standards and current standards instead of 1939 standards,” Blunt said. “[That’s] critically important as we think about how we’re going to compete in a marketplace that’s going to grow in an extraordinary way in a very short period of time.”

Brownfield interviewed Blunt at the Agricultural Business Council of Kansas City monthly meeting Thursday.
