Researchers asking for farmer soybean data

A new online cropping tool is expected to provide Midwest farmers with field-specific management guidelines.

Michigan State University’s Manni Singh tells Brownfield the project is currently in the data collection phase and needs farmer input.

“We are looking for field-specific information that might be unique to a farmer and might be different from even your neighbor,” he says.

Over the next three years, researchers will overlay producer data with soil, weather, and satellite imagery which will allow farmers to pin specific fields for crop management recommendations, profitability metrics, and align with scouting technology like Sporecaster.

Farmers can who fill out the survey before July 15 will also be entered into a cash drawing for their participation. Singh says the survey takes about 20 minutes to complete.

The project is funded through the North Central Soybean Research Program, with partners in Ohio, Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, and Minnesota.
