Cool and wet weather slows Wisconsin fieldwork
Spring weather continued to slow Wisconsin’s farmers down last week.
USDA reporters say up to a foot of new snow fell in northern Wisconsin and the rest of the state had a mixture of flurries and rain. Rainfall ranged from around two-tenths of an inch in western Wisconsin to nearly 3 inches near Superior and north of Green Bay. About the only field activity reported last week was some manure spreading.
Wisconsin’s winter wheat is rated 58% good to excellent, down slightly from a week ago.
USDA says just one percent of the oats have been planted.
Pasture conditions are down slightly from last week, with 37% in good to excellent shape.
