Arkansas planting running behind average pace

Planting continues for farmers in Arkansas, albeit at a slower pace than average.  Sixteen percent of the corn crop has been planted, behind both last year and the 5-year average. Four percent of the crop has emerged.  Rice planting is 4% complete, running well behind last year and the 5-year average.  Soybeans are 6% planted, ahead of last year and even with the 5-year averages.

Give percent of the winter wheat crop has headed with 79% of the crop rated good to excellent.

Hay alfalfa is rated 94% fair to good, other hay is rated 20% good to excellent. 

Topsoil moisture was 91% adequate to surplus and subsoil moisture was 86% adequate to surplus.
