Wisconsin man spends spare time milking cows

A Wisconsin man is proof that growing up on the farm isn’t necessary to love farming.

34-year-old Bob Nash from Ozaukee County Wisconsin isn’t your everyday dairy farmer.  Nash tells Brownfield his full-time job is with the county’s highway department, but he spends evenings and weekends milking cows and helping at Golden E Dairy because he is passionate about the dairy industry.

Nash says his interest in agriculture started when he was growing up away from a farm and taking part in 4-H. “I didn’t grow up on a dairy farm, didn’t grow up on any farm, no family history. I got involved showing dairy cattle when I was young and in 4-H and it’s shaped my life to here.”

Nash has been active in Wisconsin Farm Bureau and with Farm Bureau’s Young Farmers and Agriculturalists. “I’m now the Young Farmers chair for Wisconsin and sit on the board of directors, so it’s been a long road but, man, it’s been enjoyable and a great learning experience.”

Brownfield interviewed Nash during the recent Farm Bureau Ignite! Conference in Stevens Point, Wisconsin.
