USDA reports normal March conditions for Wisconsin

The USDA says March weather was mostly typical for the state of Wisconsin.

Farmers reported ordinary winter conditions to the agency with snow cover disappearing and frost slowly coming out of the ground toward the end of the month. Recent rains are also helping ease drought conditions.

In central and southern portions of the state, winter grains and cover crops are greening up and maple syrup season has begun, although sap is running slow to start.

The USDA’s weekly crop progress and condition reports resume next week.
