Ohio winter wheat crop improved in March
The USDA reports moderate weather in mid-March helped boost conditions for winter wheat in Ohio.
The agency rates winter wheat 55% good to excellent, up from 49% in February with the crop starting to green.
The statewide average temperature for March was 43 degrees, nearly 4.5 degrees higher than normal while precipitation averaged 2.8 inches across the state, slightly more than usual for the month. Only 1% of topsoil moisture is considered in short supply.
The USDA’s weekly crop progress and condition reports resume next week.
