March weather not very helpful to Iowa farmers
March weather did little to help Iowa farmers this year.
March came in like a lion with tornadoes touching down in some areas of the state, causing damage to agriculture buildings, fences, and machinery.
The USDA reports while there was some much-needed precipitation in some areas toward the end of the month, it was spotty, and more is needed across the state after a drier than normal March.
The agency received scattered reports of oats and small grains being seeded.
The USDA’s weekly crop progress and condition reports resume next week.
