Total red meat supplies up 1% on the year
The USDA says domestic meat supplies in cold storage at the end of February were mostly above year-ago levels.
Total red meat supplies were up 5% on the month and 1% on the year. Beef supplies were up 1% on the month and 4% on the year. Pork stocks were up 11% on the month, but down 1% on the year, with stocks of pork bellies up 12% from last month and up 34% from last year.
The total for poultry was up 6%, with chicken stocks increasing 2% year-over-year, while turkey declined 8%
The USDA’s next set of supply and demand estimates is out April 8th.
