Nebraska dairy to expand operations for agritourism to tell agriculture’s story

A small dairy says it has plans to expand the operation to connect consumers to its products to showcase the role agriculture plays in food production.

Melisa Konecky with Beauty View Farms in Eastern Nebraska near Wahoo says her family wants to start an agritourism business. “We’re working on potentially a charcuterie class here on the farm with the goal that we bring the people out to charcuterie, but then we do an hour of ag education where we talk about where does the milk from the cheese actually come from?”

She tells Brownfield the dairy is small enough to manage another business, and that could provide additional revenue. “Do we build a little farm stand and try to sell direct products here on the farm because it’s an experience and it’s an experience that most people don’t have. I think that’s definitely a draw for somebody our size.”

Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts says National Ag Week allows producers to celebrate the work that’s done in production agriculture. “People have a vision for what they want to do and how they wanted to create this dairy and the new product lines they want to add on. They’re working really hard as a family to make that happen. IT’s just cool to see and this is what America is about. People having a dream and pursing that dream.”

Ricketts proclaimed this week as “Agriculture Week” in Nebraska.

Knockey and Ricketts made their comments during a stop on the Governor’s yearly Ag Industry Tours.
