HPAI confirmed in Delaware, New Hampshire

Highly pathogenic avian influenza continues its spread.  The latest cases were detected in a non-commercial backyard poultry flock in New Hampshire and a commercial broiler farm in Kent County, Delaware.

State officials have quarantined all affected premises and the birds have been depopulated to prevent these spread of the disease.

Following the latest case in Delaware, federal and state partners have greatly expanded their surveillance sampling and testing regimen to better protect the poultry industry on the Delmarva Peninsula.

While birds from affected flocks will not enter the food system, avian influenza does not affect poultry meat or egg products and they are safe to eat.
