Illinois farmer says the waiting game continues for used equipment

An Illinois farmer says the demand for used farm equipment is high, and that’s making supplies tight.

Tim Thompson grows corn and soybeans near Jackson and says he purchased a used planter in September and is still waiting for delivery. “For me, it’s a new planter.  It’s a new used planter.  My friend down the road a few miles is waiting for a new one on April 1. He’s not going to let that planter go until he gets his new one so it’s a trickle-down effect for sure.”

And, he tells Brownfield he bought a new tractor. “We looked for tractors very strongly trying to get prepared for this planter.  We were very, very lucky to find a brand new one.  It’s been driven about an hour and we’re ready for it.”

Thompson serves on the Illinois Corn Marketing Board for the Illinois Corn Growers Association.

He spoke with Brownfield at the 2022 Commodity Classic.
