Highly pathogenic avian flu found in commercial flock of egg layers in southwest Iowa

Highly pathogenic avian influenza has been discovered in a flock of commercial layer chickens in southwest Iowa.

The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship confirmed the case Friday in Taylor County.

Ag Secretary Mike Naig says while it’s not unexpected, the department has been preparing for this and is working closely with the USDA and livestock producers to control and eradicate the disease.

This is the third case of avian flu in Iowa.
