Bayer announces new seed technology to combat pests starting 2024

Corn farmers should have another tool available to battle above and below-ground pests for the 2024 growing season.

Sean Cohen with Bayer says the company recently received EPA approval for VT4PRO with RNAi Technology. “This VT4PRO product will really boost our corn portfolio offering another choice for growers to use in a low-to-moderate corn rootworm pressure areas and where there is a higher risk for corn ear work and western bean cut wrom,” he says.

He tells Brownfield VT4PRO Technology will complement other products like SmartStax PRO, providing growers with additional corn options. “They’ll be able to use this VT4PRO with our RNAi-technology product. Where there is a higher risk for corn root worm for medium-to-very high levels, that’s where SmartStax Pro will continue to be the strongest biotech defense against corn rootworm.”

Bayer plans to conduct large scale field testing of VT4PRO Technology during the 2022 and 2023 growing seasons.  And pending state regulatory approvals, VT4PRO Technology could be available commercially as early as the 2024 crop year.
