MinneAg Network pleased with ag budget proposed by Governor Walz

A group of Minnesota farm and food system leaders and organizations applauds the ag budget proposed by Governor Walz.

Erin McKee with the MinneAg Network says there were several priorities addressed in the proposal.

“One was increasing financial and capacity investments in infrastructure, small to mid-sized processing and market development statewide, so that ties in with local and regional supply chains and food systems infrastructure investments.”

She tells Brownfield the budget supports rural groceries, food cooperatives, farmers markets, and emerging farmers.

“And that’s huge, it came up over and over again. And we’re really excited that strong support for emerging farmers is definitely evident in the proposed budget for MDA (Minnesota Department of Agriculture).”

McKee, a program director for the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy, says the MinneAg Network is also pleased to see the budget proposal link Minnesota’s agricultural production capabilities with nutrition and food access needs across the state.
