HPAI detected in commercial flock in Delaware

USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has confirmed highly pathogenic avian influenza in a commercial poultry flock in northern Delaware.

Samples were confirmed at the APHIS National Veterinary Services Laboratories in Ames, Iowa.

State officials quarantined the affected premises, and birds on the property will be depopulated to prevent the spread of the disease.

Highly pathogenic avian influenza has been detected in Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky, Virginia, Maine, and New York.

APHIS says anyone involved in poultry production from the small backyard to the large commercial producer should review their biosecurity activities.
