Meatpacking bill won’t progress

A meat and poultry worker safety bill has been killed by the South Dakota Senate Commerce and Energy committee.

Lawmakers on the committee voted 7 to 1 move the bill to the 41st day of the legislative session. The session runs 35 working days this year.

The broad-based bill would have increased protections for meat and poultry processing front-line workers.
