MO YF&R leaders pack 30-K+ meals for Drive to Feed Kids

Missouri Young Farmer & Rancher members packed more than 30-thousand meals for the Drive to Feed Kids over the weekend at their annual leadership conference.

Director Ashley McCarty with Missouri Farmers Care tells Brownfield Ag News, “These are an experienced group of workers, right? Farmers and ranchers, the salt of the earth. They’re ready to roll up their sleeves. They’re used to working.”

Even before the pandemic, McCarty says there was a pervasive need among Missouri children and their families who didn’t know where their next meal was coming from, “The numbers are one in five in our Missouri communities and it is as common in rural communities as it is in urban communities. So, this is a statewide issue that unites Missouri agriculture to come together.”

The weekend drive resulted in more than 30-thousand meals packed to be distributed through the Feeding America Program and the Food Bank of Central and Northeast Missouri.

McCarty says it’s just one event of many throughout the year – and this year’s goal is to exceed last year’s of providing 2-million meals.
