Pandemic cover crop program sign-up

Most growers who have crop insurance policies are eligible for a premium benefit for cover crops planted this year. For the second year, the Pandemic Cover Crop Program (PCCP) will pay a $5 dollar per acre subsidy but no more than the full premium amount owed. Producers must apply by March 15th.

Last year, the program paid more than $59-Million in premium subsidies for more than 12 million acres of cover crops. Some policies are not eligible.

This will be an extra benefit for producers enrolled in state premium benefit programs in Illinois, Indiana and Iowa.

RMA Administrator Marcia Bunger says the economic challenges of the pandemic made it financially difficult for many producers to maintain cover crop systems and this program will reduce their overall premium bill while helping ensure they can continue this climate-smart ag practice.
