New records set in 2021 for dairy exports

The U.S. Dairy Export Council says 2021 ended with multiple dairy export records.

Total export volumes for the year were up 10 percent from 2020 to 2.3 million metric tons of milk solids while values were up 18 percent and a new record at $7.75 billion.

Global dairy analyst William Loux tells Brownfield growth has been driven by demand for a lot of different products in several markets.

“We’ve seen growth to Mexico, we’ve seen growth to a lot of the key Asia Pacific markets, we’ve seen growth to the Middle East,” he says.

Additional records were set for cheese export volumes, nonfat dry milk/skim milk powder volumes, and whey products.

For December exports were up 17 percent in value while down four percent in volume.
