What’s to become of Carver’s Corner? City Council to hear options

The Muscatine City Council will listen to four presentations during Thursdays’ (Feb. 10) in-depth meeting in the Council Chambers at Muscatine City Hall including one on the future of the area known as Carver Corner.

A virtual meeting will be held in conjunction with the in-person meeting for those who want to view the proceedings but do not feel comfortable in attending in person. Public comment is normally not permitted during the in-depth sessions. Details for joining that meeting are listed below.

City Administrator Carol Webb and Community Development Director Jodi Royal-Goodwin will make the presentation to the Muscatine City Council. The overview regarding the City’s ownership of the property at the corner of Hershey Avenue and Green Street, commonly referred to as Carver Corner, will also include options for the use of the property.

The discussion for Council will be how City staff should manage the property and what opportunities should be sought for future development that will address community needs and meet identified goals.

Three other presentations will be given to City Council by Assistant Community Development Director Andrew Fangman on vacant property and non-residential property maintenance regulations, regulations regarding the placement of cargo containers in residential areas, and regulations regarding weeds and vegetation management.

The public is welcomed to attend Thursday’s City Council meeting that will be held in the City Council Chambers on the second floor of Muscatine City Hall, 215 Sycamore St., Muscatine. Meetings are aired live and recorded for re-broadcast on Muscatine Power & Water Civic TV (Cable Channel 2), and broadcast live on the City of Muscatine YouTube channel.

Citizens who do not want to attend the in-person meeting can watch and/or participate through the GoToMeeting virtual meeting portal. Information on joining the session is listed below.
