Minnesota Pork legislative priorities include tax policy and budget

Minnesota Pork is tracking tax policy this legislative session.

CEO David Preisler tells Brownfield the Association wants legislators to fix aspects of the Homestead Credit, a refund that can provide relief to homeowners paying property taxes.

“So we’ll be introducing that relatively soon. And we’re seeing some of the priorities as far as taxes on social security and so on, we’re actually very interested in trying to look at conformity with the estate tax. But we’ll see how that ends up going this session.”

He says the budget is another focus.

“A couple of things we’re interested in, one is some additional dollars for the Veterinary Diagnostic Lab for new equipment. And then some additional dollars for basically animal disease preparation and response.”

The 2022 Minnesota Legislative Session began last week and lawmakers are working with a budget surplus of $7.7 billion.
