NPPC wants Proposition 12 reviewed by the Supreme Court

National pork officials are hoping for a Supreme Court review of California’s Proposition 12.

Cody McKinley is with the National Pork Producers Council. He says, “It is in front of the Supreme Court, so we’re still alive and just waiting for them to make a determination of whether or not they’ll hear the case, and we’ll argue from there.”

McKinley says Prop 12 may be on hold for now because of a lower court ruling, but producers need the certainty of a final rule. “When one law passes in one place, others review it and determine whether or not they’re going to do it, and that’s our fear is that it would become a waterfall issue, and so making sure to protect producer’s interest and allow them to what’s best for their business, their farm on an individual basis.”

McKinley updated the Wisconsin Pork Producers Association during last week’s Corn/Soy/Pork Expo in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin.

McKinley made his comments to farm reporter Brian Winnekins from WRDN, Durand, Wisconsin.
