A winter storm will bring an extended period of snowfall to the region starting tonight through Thursday, but Muscatine is expected to avoid getting the worst effects.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service Quad Cities office said the heaviest snow will fall tonight into tomorrow morning, with amounts over 6 inches likely along and south of a Kirksville MO, to Galesburg to Princeton IL line.

Updated forecasts Tuesday morning now have Muscatine County getting between 1 and 2 inches of snow as the storm is now expected to take a more southeasterly path, so there will be sharp cutoff in snow amounts along the northern edge.

Travel impacts are expected during the Wednesday morning commute and through the day on Wednesday. Snow will end from west to east early Thursday with strong winds continuing through the day causing blowing and drifting in areas that get the highest amounts.
