Farmer hopeful for the ’22 season despite challenges

A southeastern Indiana farmer says he’s hopeful for the upcoming growing season despite high input prices.

Mike Koehne says “with the higher inputs it’s going to be a little tough, but I think in the long run if we can keep the higher commodity prices going we’ll be okay.”

Koehne says he isn’t planning to change his planting intentions.

“We’re on a 50/50 rotation. We grow a lot of specialty crops. A lot of food grade soybeans that go to Taiwan and Japan and a lot of food grade corn that goes to dry millers in Japan. We also grow some corn for Bourbon in Kentucky,” he says. “So, right now we’re keeping everything the same.”

The Indiana Soybean Alliance Vice Chairman farms in Decatur County.
