Farmer: higher prices to lead to a more targeted fertilizer application approach

A southern Indiana farmer says he is making some changes to his operation this year because of input concerns.

J.R. Roesner grows corn, soybeans, and wheat in Dubois County.

“Inputs are a big concern so that has shifted some acreage and some practices that we’ve used,” he says. “We’ll maybe have a more targeted fertilizer approach to save dollars while keeping yields where they need to be.”

He tells Brownfield he’ll make more adjustments as needed this spring.

“For the most part we are staying relatively normal as to our crop rotation,” he says. “There will probably be a little bit of shift right at the planting deadline when we start planting.”

Roesner is an Indiana Corn Marketing Council board member.
