EPA extends RFS compliance deadline, rulemaking process

The Environmental Protection Agency has extended the compliance deadline and final rulemaking process for the Renewable Fuel Standard.

The agency says this will ensure refiners are able to meet RFS obligations after the details for the compliance year have been released.

Renewable Fuels Association President and CEO Geoff Cooper says the announcement is disappointing and it adds uncertainty and instability around the RFS.

EPA is extending the deadline for small refiners for the 2019 compliance year, and for all parties for 2020 through 2022.

The deadlines are tied to the issuance of the final rule establishing the 2021 standards. The 2022 deadlines may also be affected by establishing the 2023 RFS standards.
