Ohio winter wheat rating up on month

Winter wheat conditions have improved in Ohio.

The USDA says 57% of the winter wheat crop is in good to excellent condition, up 8% from the end of December, with 31% of the crop called fair, down 5%.

Statewide rainfall was two tenths of an inch above average, compared to nearly nine tenths last month, and that has helped alleviate surplus soil moisture issues in parts of Ohio.

Statewide temperatures were a little bit lower than normal with no reports of issues impacting livestock.

The USDA’s weekly crop progress and condition reports resume in April.
