Nigeria partially opens market for U.S. pork

The U.S. can now export sausage and similar products to Nigeria after the nation agreed to partially open its market to US pork products.  The announcement came earlier this week (came last week) following negotiations between the US Department of Agriculture and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

National Pork Producers Council president Jen Sorenson says pork is the first US protein that has been allowed access to the Nigerian market. Other US pork products, along with US beef and poultry remain ineligible to be exported to Nigeria, but the NPPC is optimistic the partial opening will lead to more access for the US pork industry.

Nigeria has a population of just over 211 million people and the largest GDP of any African country.
