Agribusiness wants exemption for international drivers

The Michigan Agri-Business Association is applauding the decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to strike down the Biden administration’s COVID vaccine mandate on private employers.

While the organization supports voluntary vaccinations, President Chuck Lippstreu says vaccine requirements at the U.S.-Canadian border risk sending thousands of truck drivers out of international service.

The organization is calling for a truck driver exemption for both U.S. and Canadian drivers to support international commerce.

Michigan Farm Bureau national legislative counsel John Kran says while the mandate wouldn’t have impacted most farmers, it could have created issues for many of our more labor-intensive specialty crop growers and many of the ag processing and input supply businesses.
