A colder, more active January pattern for parts of the Heartland

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for the likelihood of above-normal temperatures in much of the West, while colder-than-normal conditions will prevail from the Mississippi River to the Atlantic Coast.

Meanwhile, below-normal precipitation from California and Oregon, eastward across the central Plains into the lower Midwest, should contrast with wetter-than-normal weather in the Deep South, along the Atlantic Seaboard, and from the northern Plains into the upper Great Lakes region.
