Minnesota Farm Bureau president wants dairy safety net maintained in next farm bill

A Minnesota farmer wants the current dairy safety net maintained in the next farm bill.

Dan Glessing of Waverly tells Brownfield the Dairy Margin Coverage program has been a major improvement over the Margin Protection Program.

“It needed improvements, and we got that in the DMC program. And from my perspective, the farm bill has been working (although) we might have to have some tweaks here and there.”

Glessing, the Minnesota Farm Bureau president, says the organization is gathering feedback on farm bill priorities.

“That’s why we’re asking those farmers who are negatively affected where we need to work. And we want to protect what we’ve got (that is working), and certainly price protection is key. But also those programs that have been working, we’re going to advocate to keep in there.”

Brownfield interviewed Glessing during the American Farm Bureau Convention in Atlanta.
