Temps to briefly moderate across the Heartland; mixed precipitation ahead
Meanwhile, a storm system currently affecting the Northwest will cross southern Canada, delivering weekend wind, snow showers, and another surge of cold air across the northern Plains and upper Midwest.
Along the storm’s trailing cold front, widespread rain (locally 1 to 2 inches) will develop during the weekend across the Southeast, extending into the Ohio Valley.
By early next week, a more tranquil weather pattern will develop nearly nationwide, featuring mostly dry conditions and above-normal temperatures.
Frigid weather may linger, however, from the Great Lakes States into the Northeast.
