USDA new crop insurance benefit for split applied nitrogen

The USDA’s Risk Management Agency has launched a new supplemental insurance program for corn farmers who split-apply nitrogen to non-irrigated corn.

The Post Application Coverage Endorsement, or PACE, is available to farmers in select counties in 11 states: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Ohio, Wisconsin.

It will provide coverage for the projected yield lost when producers are not able to apply the post nitrogen during the V3 to V10 corn growth stages because of field conditions created by weather.

It’s available  as a supplement to Yield Protection, Revenue Protection and Revenue Protection with Harvest Price Exclusion policies.

PACE was developed by the Illinois Corn Growers Association, National Corn Growers, Ag-Analytics, Meridian Institute and others.

The first sales closing date to purchase it is March 15th.
